It has been almost two months now that I posted something on this blog.
I'm sorry, life got the best of me for a bit. But I'm back with a couple nice posts about a phenomenon we call the seismic ghost and other fascinating things surrounding geophysics and science. But let's start with a little fun content:

When it comes to minerals, they have certain properties. One property is the hardness. Back in the day German mineralogist Friedrich Mohs had the idea to introduce a scale, where you basically take two minerals and have a look which one can put scratches into the other. This scale has ten levels from extremely soft to hard like a diamond, however we might consider to update this scale especially when we consider that Thor's Hammer obvisously looks like this:

Anyone who ever owned a Nokia should be able to relate to this.

Under a raging moon.

On the 5th of may several spectacular moments combined to the beautiful picture taken by @etnaboris (Twitter / Flickr).
We had the "supermoon". This just means that two phenomenae joined, making the moon appear bigger than usual. The moon is on a slightly elliptical path around earth. Now what happened is that full moon and the moon passing earth on the closest point on this ellipsis coincide.
But that isn't enough! The volcano Etna on sicily was actively producing a gas plume rising into the sky. Check out Boris' story to his picture "Under a Raging Moon".

Graduation of my fellow students

We had the graduation ceremony at our university.
I have to say it is very nice that a ceremony like that is held at our school and I am quite excited for my own graduation next year!
