The Way of the Geophysicist.

Problems? Well on one hand I am talking about problems to be solved during my work. The software is up and running and I can move on to caring about solving said problems. On the other hand there are some personal problems.

Norwegian mentality differs from the German one. It starts at the "flat hierarchy", which is implemented here. This bears some responsibility and as a student I definitely have to get used to this. It is very refreshing to be able to work as an individual but nevertheless, it takes some time to get acquainted. Moreover there is a striking accumulation of sportive people. On our walks described here, we saw lots of joggers, cyclists and more exotic means of transportation like summer cross-country skis (like skates). These differences are not very grave but are small steps to cultural adaptation.
But cultural adaptation isn't just a "leisure time thing". At the office I work with a many different cultures and sometimes I sense some obstacles to overcome.

Furthermore Fugro has a lucky situation and all the computational capacity is busy. But for me this means that I need way more time for testing. The other way around this encourages me to give even more thought in the test parameters.

Last but not least I realize more and more that in a company things are about profit. So basically when I do my work there is the question of value to the company. Of course I am willing to make a good impression therefore I want to contribute this value. It is up to me to do my very best without stressing out too much. Maybe this will be the biggest quest, because in university I learned a lot. But I unlearned the lightness of being. I tend to stress myself out and not to rest, but maybe in this case the mentality of the norvegians and fixed working times will do me some good. After eight hours of straight work I actually do feel that I deserve my evening.

As always the big question is "Heads or tails", because every coin has two sides to it. There are contrasts to be united and there is definitely some lessons to be learned.

As is often the case when you learn something for a lifetime, it can be quite hard.
Accordingly, I am looking forward to a weekend at home. My girl and me will be attending the renaissance fair and spend some wonderful days.
